El Sardinero
Santander's city beach: it only wakes up with a big swell, and then it breaks hard.
El Sardinero is sheltered by the bay and needs big north or north-west swells to get waves. That's why, when it works, the wave always carries a lot of energy: it breaks fast and hard over sand.
The right-hand side of the beach picks up more swell than the left (Segunda playa), and next to the hotel wall there's a left that is heavily contested by bodyboarders.
