Surf spots in Northern and Central Morocco

Morocco's Atlantic coast between Kenitra and Essaouira has waves for every level a few hours' flight from Europe: city beaches with surf schools in Rabat and Casablanca, right points such as Bouznika, the calm lagoon at Oualidia and one of the most powerful and famous rights in the world, Safi.

The coast faces west and north-west and gets North Atlantic swells from October to March, with an easterly land breeze in the mornings. In summer the northerly trade winds blow hard, especially at Essaouira and Sidi Kaouki, which then become kite and windsurf destinations. Water is 15–17 °C in winter and 19–21 °C in summer. Watch out for currents, water quality near harbours and cities, and leaving valuables in the car.
