Lacanau Océan
Gironde's surf capital, with peaks in front of the town and an international contest every summer.
Lacanau Océan is a surf town an hour from Bordeaux, with sand peaks in front of the promenade and on both sides. Every August it hosts the Lacanau Pro, an international contest that is part of French surfing history.
In summer it's very crowded and surfing is limited to areas outside the lifeguarded swimming zones; the best time is autumn, with fewer people and the first swells.
