La Barceloneta
Barcelona's urban surf: peaks between groynes a few minutes from the centre.
Barceloneta is the city's best-known beach and the birthplace of Barcelona surfing. The groynes shape the sandbanks into left and right peaks, especially by the W Hotel and in front of the old neighbourhood.
It works with an east or south-east swell and a north-west wind. Good days fill up fast, so go early or try the next peak along.
