Surf spots in Valencia and Murcia

The Valencian coast is a run of long sandy beaches facing east, from Castellón to Alicante, carrying on south to La Manga del Mar Menor. The waves depend on easterly (levante) storms, which in autumn and winter bring short but sometimes decent swells, and on a westerly (poniente) wind to clean up the sea.

Valencia city has an active surf community at Patacona, Pinedo and El Saler, and further south Cullera, Tavernes and Oliva pick up the easterly groundswell well. Water is 14 °C in winter and above 26 °C in summer, when there are hardly ever waves.
