Playa de España is a very consistent open beach, with beach-break peaks and lefts near the point. It needs some swell (1–1.5 m and up), so it's often too small in summer; from autumn to spring it's one of the reliable options near Gijón.
It gets busy because it's close to the city, but it's big enough to spread the crowd.
